Water Pressure Problems in Kamloops

Too low and your shower is miserable. Too high and your pipes are quietly taking damage. We diagnose the cause and fix it — pressure reducing valves, pipe repairs, and more.

Two Problems, Both Worth Fixing

Low water pressure is obvious — you feel it every time you shower or wait for the sink to fill. High water pressure is the sneaky one. You might not notice it at all until fixtures start failing early, pipes develop leaks, or your water heater's pressure relief valve starts activating. By then, the damage is already done.

Normal residential pressure is 40–80 PSI. Below 40 and you have a flow problem. Above 80 and you have a stress problem. Both are diagnosable and fixable — usually in a single visit.

Low Pressure

Weak flow, slow fill times, poor shower performance

Above 80 PSI
High Pressure

Pipe damage, fixture wear, water hammer, leaks

Why Pressure Drops — The Most Common Causes

1

Mineral Scale Inside Pipes

Hard water deposits narrow pipe interiors over time, reducing flow. Most common in older homes with galvanized steel pipes — the inside corrodes and the effective diameter shrinks significantly.

2

Failing Pressure Reducing Valve

A worn or failed PRV can cause pressure to drop below normal levels throughout the home. PRVs last 10–15 years — if yours is older, it may be the culprit.

3

Partially Closed Shut-Off Valve

The main shut-off valve or individual fixture valves may not be fully open. Sometimes this happens after a repair and nobody notices.

4

Hidden Water Leak

A leak in the supply line diverts water before it reaches your fixtures, reducing pressure throughout the home. Often accompanied by a higher-than-usual water bill.

5

Corroded or Undersized Pipes

Older galvanized steel pipes corrode from the inside, significantly reducing their effective diameter. Upgrading to copper or PEX is the long-term solution.

What High Pressure Does to Your Plumbing

Most homeowners don't realize they have a high pressure problem until fixtures start failing or pipes begin leaking. Here's what's happening behind the walls when pressure exceeds 80 PSI:

Pipe joints and fittings leak or fail prematurely
Faucet washers and cartridges wear out 3–5x faster
Toilet fill valves run constantly, wasting water
Water hammer (banging pipes) damages pipe supports
Water heater pressure relief valve activates frequently
Dishwasher and washing machine hoses burst
